The Weybridge Community Centre opened in 1978 and over the last thirty seven years it has been providing a service for older people but also a venue for the community to hire outside of core centre operating hours. Because of very dilapidated loos which have not been refurbished since the centre was built, an important and vital requirement to replace the loo facilities within the building which could impact on the continued usage both by customers of the centre and by hirers of the building.
The centre operates five days a week 9-4:30 Monday to Friday offering a wide range of service and facilities for older people. There is a fully operational kitchen which provides a three course hot meal and also provides meals on wheels for vulnerable residents in Weybridge. There is a tea bar to support light refreshments.
As far as I can see, this expenditure is not discretionary in that it is a legal requirement to provide these facilities at such an establishment. This grant is therefore replacing funding that would otherwise be found elsewhere.
