Some functions of Surrey’s business in Elmbridge is delegated to an Elmbridge local committee since 2002. It consists of nine county councillors (one of each county division in the borough) and nine borough councillors (appointed by the borough political parties) of which I am one.
Together we discuss and make decisions on a range of local services including highways and transportation, social care, education and young people.
Parking and pot-holes seem to be the primary concern of locals.
The local committee also provides funding to support local projects and initiatives that can make a difference to the community, with over £150,000 available each year.
Burghers (in fact anyone) are welcome to attend meetings to ask questions, present petitions on matters of local concern, or simply listen in.
